Meet Our New Functional Fragrances!

Heard the news? On March 7th, S. Dub’s founder Adina Grigore will drop her second book, Just the Essentials: How Essential Oils Can Heal Your Skin, Improve Your Health, and Detox Your Life. And, yes, your eyes aren’t deceiving you – it’s all about essential oils: What they are, why you should care, and how you can use them in your day-to-day life.

While we know you are going to love this book, we also know that many of you are probably like, “Well, now I want some essential oils!” Fear not, friends: That’s why we’ve launched our S.W. Functional Fragrances

What’s a “Functional Fragrance,” you ask? Well, essential oils aren’t just nice-smelling aromas; they are plant compounds with active – and often healing – properties. And unlike synthetic fragrance, pure essential oils contain dynamic components that work with your body and your body’s chemistry for synergistic, healing results. An essential oil can be anything from antibacterial to anti-anxiety. Aka they’re highly functional.

The oils we’ve selected for our Functional Fragrances aren’t just any old oils, either: They are what Adina deems as her “top ten” essential oils, ones that everyone should be integrating into their lives. They’re versatile and offer a range of therapeutic properties.

Okay, now that you know what our Functional Fragrances are, let’s break down three facts about ‘em:

  • For the most part, each consists of just one essential oil. This is done intentionally in order to highlight the various, diverse properties of the oil.
  • All are diluted in organic sunflower oil, rendering them super gentle and perfect for applying directly on the skin.
  • Each is packaged in a handy rollerball for easy, seamless application – no unwieldy droppers!

Ready to learn about each one? Let’s go!

Lavender

Adina calls lavender the “Taylor Swift of essential oils,” because of its ubiquitous nature. But there’s a reason it’s everywhere: Lavender is truly a one-and-done oil. Its calming scent helps release anxious energy, and it contains chemical components with proven antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.

We recommend using this Functional Fragrance literally anywhere (well, almost anywhere), especially when you need some peace of mind.

Lemon

With its bright, light, and zesty aroma, lemon essential oil is an instant pick-me-up. At the same time, it’s a wonderful skin treatment. It contains high levels of the compound D-limonene, which assists in diminishing the appearance of wrinkles, promoting circulation, and toning the skin.

We recommend using this Functional Fragrance on your face, wrists, or temples to brighten up your skin and your mood.

Clary Sage

Clary Sage oil was a staple of ancient medicine cabinets due to its purifying properties. It has been lauded for its ability to regulate hormones; it’s also antibacterial, astringent, antiseptic, and can help improve circulation. It has a sweetly herbal scent.

We recommend using this Functional Fragrance on breakouts, temples, or wrists whenever you’re kinda PMS-y or moody.

Eucalyptus

You’ve probably used Vick’s VapoRub at some point in your life, right? If so, one whiff of eucalyptus essential oil will likely bring back the memories of that lingering cough. The eye-opening smell is the reason it’s been used for centuries as a natural way to heal colds and congestion.

We recommend using this Functional Fragrance on your chest and/or around your nostrils whenever you feel a cough or cold coming on.

Tea Tree Oil

If you say breakouts, we say tea tree essential oil. This natural-beauty-world favorite is the ultimate spot treatment because of its potent antiseptic properties. Added bonus: Tea tree essential oil works its magic without being overly drying and irritating like its synthetic counterparts. (Looking at you, benzoyl peroxide.)

We recommend using this Functional Fragrance as a spot treatment whenever your skin is freaking out.

Sweet Orange

A super fave of Adina’s, sweet orange essential oil has a tangy scent that is basically like bottled sunshine. We love using this essential oil at all times: It calms the mood, lifts the spirit, and has known anti-anxiety properties.

We recommend using this Functional Fragrance anywhere and everywhere when you’re feeling a wave of stress coming on. Then listen to this song.

Peppermint

Peppermint is everywhere: In our toothpaste, our favorite herbal tea, and in our go-to Girl Scout Cookie. When it comes to peppermint essential oil, it’s a kick-ass oil that can calm imbalances and upsets of all kinds, including nausea, headaches, and nervousness.

We recommend using this Functional Fragrance under nostrils or on your temples whenever you’re feeling queasy, headache-y, or out-of-whack.

Rosemary

It’s one of our favorite cooking herbs, which is why it’s not a surprise that the deep, herbaceous scent of rosemary essential oil provides an instant pick-me-up. Yet its scent has powerful therapeutic properties, too: When inhaled has been shown to improve mental focus without the crash that many stimulants carry.

We recommend using this Functional Fragrance on temples or wrists whenever you need to get your hustle on.

Cinnamon (with Cardamom)

Aside from smelling absolutely amazing, cinnamon leaf essential oil is renowned as a healing oil; it has the ability to soothe mind, body, and mood. Paired with cardamom essential oil, it basically smells like the world’s best bakery.

We recommend using this Functional Fragrance on temples as a headache treatment or anywhere when you just want to smell edible.

Lemongrass (with Bergamot)

Lemongrass is best known as a flavorful Asian herb – but it’s not just for flavoring food! Lemongrass essential oil is a great detoxifier and its bright, energizing scent makes it an irresistible mood-booster – particularly when paired with bergamot essential oil’s sweet smell.

We recommend using this Functional Fragrance on temples, behind the ears, or mixed in with your favorite moisturizer to detox your bad mood or troublesome skin.
