DIY Your Coffee

Perhaps you’ve noticed that with the launch of our Microbatch Coffee Scrub, we’re into all things coffee lately – which, obviously, includes DIY-ing. In fact, coffee is one of our absolute favorite pantry items to DIY with, largely because it is so convenient. If you’re making it in the morning, chances are you’ve got some leftover grounds or brew. Instead of chucking the stuff, save it and you’re ready to go. Laziness points intact, ahead are three totally simple coffee-based recipes you can DIY at home. Read on!

 

Java Choco-Coconut Body Scrub

 

This scrub is a riff on our Body Scrub, but with a yummy twist. The coffee and coconut flour act as natural exfoliators, the cocoa powder is rich in antioxidants and smells amazing, and the coconut oil helps to nourish, hydrate, and soften skin.

 

1 tbsp coffee grounds

1 tbsp coconut flour

1 tbsp cocoa powder

2 tbsp coconut oil

 

Combine all ingredients together thoroughly and apply as a scrub to the body. Rinse thoroughly.

 

Wake Up! Coffee Scrub Mask

 

This scrubby mask is like a red-eye for your face. The caffeine in the cooled coffee and coffee grounds will help to stimulate skin cells, while the red clay will assist in detoxing pores and clearing out congestion (the natural texture of the coffee grounds helps with that, too). Adding in some jojoba oil make this combination a bit less harsh.

 

1/3 cup cooled coffee

1 tsp coffee grounds

½ tbsp red clay

1 tsp jojoba oil or other thin oil

 

Combine all ingredients together thoroughly and apply as a mask, scrubbing in gently as you apply. Leave on until dry and then rinse thoroughly.

 

Latte Hair Soak

 

Coffee can help enhance your hair’s natural sheen and color (particularly if you’re a brunette), while coconut milk serves as a natural conditioner. You might want to drink this one, too, which we totally endorse – but be sure to save it for a luxurious hair treatment once a week.

 

1 cup cooled coffee

1 cup coconut milk

 

Combine ingredients together and pour onto hair, trying to avoid eyes. Let it sit in for at least five minutes before rinsing.
