Trying to get pregnant for the first time is a beautiful thing. It’s also a disorienting, emotional, and downright confusing process. You’re embracing learning-as-you-go, gleaning information from wherever you can, and generally hoping you’re doing the “right thing” – because, trust me, you’ll be bombarded with a lot of conflicting information. (Lift your legs up in the air after sex? Give up chocolate? Recite fertilization-affirming mantras post-coitus? Yep, I’ve heard it all…)Read More›
What is a “tech cleanse” and why are we doing it? Is it because we’re obsessed with Kendall Jenner and wish we were bffs? I mean kind of, but a digital detox is old news for S-Dubs. For the past two years, our team has collectively taken time, always around the holiday season, to disconnect. For one full day, we don’t post on Instagram, we don’t text our friends, and we don’t check our email. This year, we’re pushing the envelope and going tech-free for three full days. What’ll happen? Will our heads explode? Will the world miss our Instagram posts? Will we be so bored that we’ll actually be forced to face all of our fears and problems and neuroses? All likely.Read More›
Hey, moms. We want to have a little chat. We know that you’re out there, you support us, and you’re working your tail off to make it all work – motherhood, friendships, careers, activities, life. And you’re doing an incredible job. But we also know that sometimes that can all be a bit too much and you find yourself stuck in the house with a blotchy complexion and a grumpy six-year-old that suddenly hates all of his/her toys. Which is why we made you this mom-and-me DIY. Because we appreciate you and your complexion. The unifying elements of these two recipes are our Hibiscus Mask, our Makeup Remover, and…turmeric. (Yes, the spice!) Using these ingredients, we’re making two totally different – but equally colorful – DIYs. Read on!
This homemade play-doh is insanely easy to make, but your kid will get a total kick out of seeing it all come together. Moreover, hand-dyeing the dough is fun for everyone (yourself included), particularly when you’re using our bright pinky-purple Hibiscus Mask and brilliant yellow turmeric powder as non-toxic dyes. Note that this is a messy project that will require laying down some newspaper and thoroughly washing hands afterward. Also: Although the dough is technically okay to eat if your kid is a little naughty, it’s not a good idea.
So all of us here at S-Dubs are pretty into food – talking about it, planning around it, eating it in all shapes & sizes, drooling over other people’s plates… you get the picture. We all have our vices, but today we chose to focus on cookie related treats because we sometimes struggle to find options that don’t leave us feeling terrible about our choice. But, before I get into the team’s faves, I felt it was important to explain how I am qualified to be hosting this oh-so-important discussion…Read More›
How To Be Sneaky Healthy at the Holidays
(No One Has to Know You’re Eating Vegetables)
Here at S-Dubs, we’re all about balance. And by balance, we mean, a good amount of indulging with just the right amount of healthy-so-you-and-your-skin-don’t-die. If you have food allergies, sometimes it’s almost easier to stay healthy, especially at the holidays. You get to walk into every holiday party, proclaim that you can’t touch the dairy unless they want a broken toilet, and move on. But if you’re just on the sensitive side, or you’re aware that you need a certain amount of healthy food to stay glowy and happy, then it can be a little harder. You want to have a good time, you want to have some of that onion dip, you don’t want to walk around telling everyone that said dip will give you zits for days, but you also don’t want zits for days. Are we speaking your language?
‘Tis better to give then receive – except, of course, if you have no idea what to give. Admit it: Even the most spirited of us can become slightly Grinch-like at the prospect of gift shopping creatively. That’s where we come in to save the day, ala Cindy Lou Who. (But wait. Do you know who played Cindy Lou in 2000’s classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas? Bet it’ll blow your mind.) We’re here to help answer the what-the-heck-do-I-buy-this-person question – and vastly improve your holiday mood in the process.Read More›
Trash Talkin’ Eco Wrapping Options
Here’s some figurative coal for your stocking: It’s estimated that between Thanksgiving and Christmas, Americans produce 25 million tons of garbage – about one million extra tons per week. This includes things like food waste, but gift-wrapping and packaging are also major culprits for the excess. So while holiday shopping sprees are pretty much a foregone conclusion, the resulting waste doesn’t need to be.Read More›
