Nourish Your Skin with The Wallflower of U.S. Crops

Sunflower oil is the totally amazing, but oftentimes forgotten wallflower of natural oils.  It’s the main ingredient in our new Salves, so we thought we’d give you a low-down of some of Sunflower Oil’s amazing benefits:

Skin barrier function – if you’ve been following us for awhile, you’ve probably heard that your skin is your body’s largest organ. Your skin acts as a translator between the internal and external worlds – pretty important! Sunflower oil has this amazing ability to strengthen your skin’s barrier function, meaning it helps your skin better understand what to take in and what to divert away.

Antibacterial – Sunflower oil is rich in linoleic acid (a type of fatty acid – you know, those funny things you hear about all the time), which actually helps to unclog pores. Seems counterintuitive, but linoleic acid is the fatty acid that’s more liquid, less thick. Sunflower oil’s high linoleic acid quantity makes it an ideal hydrator for clogged skin.

Nourishing – Sunflower oil is high in vitamins and minerals like Vitamin A, E, and zinc. Its range of nutrient content makes it particularly nourishing to the skin – meaning it’ll hydrate, tone, and protect the skin. The high Vitamin E content gives it some extra potent antioxidants, Vitamin A helps the skin retain its moisture, and the minerals are super healing.

Local – Sunflowers are actually native to the United States! And all S.W. products are created and produced in the U.S., so you’re really winning here.
Sold on Sunflower oil’s amazing properties? Obviously we totally are! We’re using our Salves as a spot treatment for blemishes or pesky dry spots, under our noses that are raw from tissue blowing, and on our cuticles. If you’re thinking, what the heck is a salve? Check out this post. If you’re thinking, already did that, then get outta here and go moisturize.
