S.W. Recipe: WAKE UP Smoothie

I have a confession: I am obsessed with Juice Press. I say this with just a bit of guilt because I know that many of their recipes are ones which I could probably make myself, thus saving money and bettering my culinary skills. But, alas, I don’t. Great story, right? It gets better, hold on.


Recently, my co-worker Rachel suggested we attempt to re-create a smoothie inspired by one available at Juice Press. Said smoothie is called the Harvey Wallbanger and it is a delicious blend of coffee, vanilla, dates, chocolate, and banana. AKA it’s created with everything that is good in this world, minus puppies.


Intrigued? I thought so. I’m calling our version the WAKE UP Smoothie (caps required) because the caffeine content will get you there, thanks to the inclusion of cold brew and cacao powder. Honestly, I would not drink a latte alongside of this one unless you want to be wired. (Don’t say I didn’t warn you.) Some other minor notes: We substituted the whole dates for Date Lady syrup — amazing stuff if you’ve yet to try it — plus added in some almond butter to get a little more protein. If you want to eliminate some of the caffeine content, I would nix the cacao powder, reduce the coffee content, and increase the amount of almond milk. If you want to make this more substantial, I would add in some plant protein or more almond buttah. The possibilities are endless. Rise ‘n shine and enjoy!

WAKE UP Smoothie


1 frozen banana, chopped
6 oz cold brew (we used Chameleon, but there are plenty of nice options out there)
3 oz almond milk
1 teaspoon Date Lady syrup
1 tablespoon almond butter
1 teaspoon cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Several ice cubes
Add all the ingredients together in a food processor or high-powered blender and blend. Serve and enjoy immediately.
